<p>Once a derelict poultry farm (yes really), <a href="https://peterleymanorfarm.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Peterley Manor Farm</a> in Great Missenden has had quite the glow-up. Now it’s a 40-acre slice of rural luxe, home to artisan fairs, a dreamy Wild Spa, <a href="https://www.slohaus.co.uk/">Slohaus</a>, with fire-heated saunas and icy plunge pools (plunge optional, squeal inevitable), and an ever-growing list of treats: a brand-new butchery, cheese room, yoga and wellness sessions – and now <a href="https://peterleymanorfarm.co.uk/little-fish-sushi/">sushi</a>. Because why the heck not?</p>



<p>At its heart is the Barn Kitchen – a rustic-chic bolthole tucked inside a beautifully converted barn since 2021. It’s all weathered wood, fire pits, and English wine by the bottle. Oh, and the pooch gets a dog-friendly beer. Naturally.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-vibe">THE VIBE</h2>

<p>Boho brunch meets countryside cool. Vases spilling with flowers, cosy nooks, and crackling wood burners in winter; sun-dappled al fresco tables come summer. You could waft in post-yoga for a turmeric latte or stomp in muddy-booted with the dog. Either way, it’s warm, stylish and wonderfully unpretentious.</p>

<p>The menu’s a proper crowd-pleaser: fresh, seasonal, and locally sourced (some of it grown on site – smug or what?). Don’t miss the dreamy flatbreads, fermented and fired in the outdoor oven. The smoked beetroot, mozzarella and hot honey version was a tangy, cheesy cuddle on a plate.</p>

<p>Burgers sizzle in the outdoor kitchen, and the Farm Deli Plates are a genius pick-and-mix of meat/fish/falafel and luxe seasonal salads. The homemade beef pastrami with spiced horseradish mayo was tender and punchy, perfectly offset by a bright tomato panzanella. My veggie sidekick raved about the British bean falafel with baba ganoush – once she stopped eyeing up my flatbread.</p>

<p>Drinks-wise, it’s just as good. After a morning in the Wild Spa (you’ll never feel smugger), we went full wellness goddess with cold-pressed juices, fermented teas and zingy shots. But the drinks list isn’t all virtue – there&#8217;s excellent wine, beer and a Bloody Mary made with Cotswolds Single Malt Whisky that practically winked at us.</p>

<p>By dessert, all resolutions had vanished. I went all-in on a courgette, pistachio and lime cake with cream cheese icing. We also split a slice of carrot, coconut and pistachio and a lemon, elderflower and blueberry creation. Because three cakes is totally balanced if you share, right?</p>

<p>Once you’ve polished off lunch, there’s loads to explore: a gorgeous farm shop, nursery, and local walks with horse riders and dog walkers breezing past the garden tables. Got littlies? Head to <a href="https://www.bekonscot.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Bekonscot Model Village &amp; Railway</a> in Beaconsfield or <a href="https://coam.org.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Chiltern Open Air Museum</a> in Chalfont St Giles. For grown-up adventures, try <a href="https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/oxfordshire-buckinghamshire-berkshire/hughenden" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Hughenden</a> (Disraeli’s pad) or the Hellfire Caves in High Wycombe.</p>

<p>Whether you’re brunching, lunching, or lolling by the firepit with a flat white, The Barn Kitchen nails that hard-to-find balance of chilled and considered. The food’s knockout, the setting’s lush, and even the dog leaves grinning. Arrive hungry, leave happy (and with a bag of treats from the farm shop, obviously).</p>



<p><strong>GOOD FOR:</strong>&nbsp;Stylish catch-ups, lazy lunches, dog dates, and those in search of a countryside café with serious food game. Also fab for special occasions – the space and menu more than deliver.</p>



<p><strong>NOT FOR:&nbsp;</strong>Fans of beige buffets or anyone expecting scones and cheese sarnies. It’s modern, fresh and geared towards a slightly younger crowd.</p>
