The Nut Tree Inn, Murcott
Muddy says: A Michelin-starred wonder in a pretty hamlet outside Bicester, with cosy interiors, attractive garden terrace and exceptional service. A big yes for a special occasion.
One of the most revered pub/restaurants in Oxfordshire with a Michelin star awarded each year since 2008, The Nut Tree manages to combine the look and feel of a pub – 15th century buildings, thatched roof, exposed beams, cosy corners – with great modern British food including home-smoked organic salmon, homemade breads and ice-creams and succulent meats.
You’ll find the cosy, atmospheric nooks-and-crannies history at the front of the pub, an open kitchen in full view with head chef/owner Mike North cooking on the wheels of steel, and an attractive, double height barn-style add-on to the rear of the building offering greater seating and a more traditional restaurant vibe. Out the back there’s a pretty courtyard garden area for sunny days.
If 12 Michelin stars isn’t enough to tempt you, the pub was voted in the Top 50 Gastropubs in the UK in 2018, as well as being a finalist for Best Restaurant 2018 in the Muddy Stilettos Awards.
It welcomes drop-in drinkers and families and has a relaxed, congenial atmosphere though arguably its fine dining credentials might be wasted on the young!
Please note that with Covid The Nut Tree is currently offering a reduced menu that doesn’t include a vegan option.
