<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-1-you-don-t-need-to-be-a-chilli-head-to-survive-it">1. You don’t need to be a chilli-head to survive it</h2>



<p>Let’s set the record straight: yes, this is <a href="https://waddesdon.org.uk/whats-on/chilli-festival/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Chilli Fest</a> at Waddesdon Manor in Buckinghamshire (Fri 29 – Sun 31 Aug). And yes, there’ll be enough spice to fuel a small volcano – but you absolutely don’t need to have asbestos taste buds or a laminated Scoville scale in your pocket to enjoy yourself. Whether you like your chilli sweet and smoky or you&#8217;re more of a ketchup kinda gal, it’s a proper crowd-pleaser – kids included. Yes, really.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-2-eat-like-a-queen-shop-like-a-pro">2. Eat like a queen, shop like a pro</h2>

<p>Roughly 70 fabulous artisan producers and indie traders will be setting up camp, and it’s safe to say you’ll need trousers with a forgiving waistband. Think cheese with attitude, brownies with bite, tacos, cocktails, and more fiery condiments than you can shake a breadstick at. Head to The Taste Tent to live your best foodie life – sample sauces from mild to ‘call the fire brigade’, cast your vote, and await the Monday results like it&#8217;s Bake Off finals.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-3-spice-with-a-side-of-chateau">3. Spice with a side of chateau</h2>

<p>Chilli’s not the only thing bringing the heat. Waddesdon Manor – a French-style château plonked in 500 acres of Bucks countryside – is the outrageously photogenic backdrop for the whole affair. The festival hub is the Aviary and Pleasure Gardens, but don’t miss a nosy round the Wedding Cake sculpture &nbsp;by Joana Vasconcelos or a sneak peek inside the manor. You’re basically one cream tea away from being mistaken for a <em>Bridgerton</em> extra.</p>

<p>It’s like Gladiators, but with more sweating. The <a href="https://www.cliftonchilliclub.com" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Clifton Chilli Club</a> hosts this spectacular showdown on Sat and Sun, pitting the brave (or bonkers) against nature’s most eye-watering chillies. Will they survive the scotch bonnets? Will you manage not to cry-laugh into your margarita? Who knows. If you reckon you’ve got the stomach (and no sense of self-preservation), you can even enter. We’ll cheer from the safety of the shade.</p>

<p>You’ve got tacos, they’ve got teacups – specifically,&nbsp;<em>Storm in a Teacup Circus</em>&nbsp;offering hula hooping, plate spinning and other energetic shenanigans. There’s also the legendary&nbsp;<em>Bubble Wizard</em>&nbsp;conjuring giant bubbles, and the Actual Reality Arcade (yes, really) where they can play full-size Pac-Man, fire rockets, dodge barrels and generally burn off the sugar high. Parenting win.</p>

<p>Tear yourself away from the taco truck for long enough and you’ll be rewarded with bangers of the musical kind. Mariachi mayhem from&nbsp;<em><a href="https://www.beatoburrito.com">Beatto Burrito</a></em>, funky horn-heavy antics from&nbsp;<em><a href="https://www.tuba-libres.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Tuba Libres</a></em>, Bollywood beats via&nbsp;<em><a href="https://www.bombaybaja.com/">Bombay Baja</a></em>, and the always-hilarious&nbsp;<em><a href="https://www.instagram.com/thestrayhorns/">The Stray Horns</a></em>. It’s a proper knees-up.</p>
