6 drive-in fireworks displays near you

Bonfire Night may be cancelled this year, but these clever drive-in displays will save your night from becoming a damp squib.

With the vast majority of fireworks displays facing the chop this year, this Guy Fawkes Night is certainly going to be different. However, some clever folks have managed to put together drive-in fireworks displays that mean you don’t even have to leave your car to see the show – although they’re few and far between! Here are five we’ve truffled up in Bucks, Oxon and over the border, but you’ll need to book quickly as demand is high!

Fireworks

The Henley Showground, Bucks – RESCHEDULED to 5 Dec

Buckinghamshire’s biggest display this year, this event from double British Firework Champions Illusion Fireworks Ltd kicks off with a low noise childrens’ fireworks show at 7.15, with the main event kicking off at 8. There’s also going to be a hot air balloon glowing away (if it’s not tipping it down), a bonfire, and plenty of street food and drink. Drive-in tickets are unfortunately sold out, but there are still limited park and walk tickets available for a separate viewing area. Adults (16 and over) cost £10, and children up to five cost £5. Children under five go free, and a family ticket (2 adults, 2 children) cost £27.50.

Abingdon Airfield, Oxon, RESCHEDULED to 19 and 20 Dec

For the first time ever, Illusion Fireworks Ltd’s famous Abingdon display will happen on two nights – so there’s double the chance of you nabbing a ticket. Drive-in tickets are still available for both nights at £35 per car, and you’ll be able to park in your designated spot with space to get your camping chairs out and watch from afar. There are also park and walk tickets available – adults (16 and over) cost £10, and children up to five cost £5. Children under five go free, and a family ticket (2 adults, 2 children) cost £27.50. Expect a low noise childrens display at 7.15 before the main show at 8, and plenty of food and drink is available.

Market Harborough Showground, Leics, TBC

Just over the border in Leicestershire, multi-award winning pyrotechnics Komodo Fireworks are holding a fabulous drive-in fireworks display in aid of the local Air Ambulance. Tickets cost £30.75 per car of 6, and you’ll have a clearly-marked bubble all to yourself for when the show kicks off at 6.30pm. Don’t worry about bringing your own snacks, either – there’s a car food delivery service that you can order via an app, serving everything from woodfired pizzas to freshly fried doughnuts. Yum.

Stanford Hall, Leics – RESCHEDULED to 19 Dec

The grounds of this gorgeous wedding venue on the Leics/Northants border are the perfect spot to pull up a car and watch a display by MLE Pyrotechnics Limited. Tickets cost £40 per car of 6, with a full colour laser dancing performing kicking off at 5pm and a 17-minute fireworks display starting at 6.30pm. No word on food or drink at this one, so bring your own picnic or swing via a drive-through on your way in!

Santa Pod Raceway, Beds, RESCHEDULED to 4 Nov

Drive-in tickets were snapped up sharpish for this Wellingborough show, but there are still socially-distanced standing tickets available in the Grandstand. Tickets cost £47 for a car of six, and then your standing tickets will be assigned separately so you’ll have prime viewing to catch what’s promising to be the venue’s biggest ever fireworks display. It’s been put together by Titanium Fireworks, who have previously worked on The London New Year’s Eve Show, Edinburgh’s Hogmanay, Liverpool’s River of Light, and the Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony – so you know it’s gotta be good.
