<p>Fancy playing Lord and Lady of the Manor? You have until the end of September, which is when this beautiful moated manor house near Banbury closes. Broughton has been in the Fiennes family since 1447 (yes, <em>that </em>Fiennes family), and has plenty of parkland for the kids and dogs on leads to bomb about in. Open Weds, Thurs and Sun <strong>until 30 Sept</strong>. </p>

<p>If you haven&#8217;t visited this gorgeously grand manor owned by Lord Faringdon, now’s the time &#8211; it closes for the season at the end of the month. Leave yourself plenty of time to explore both the house, which is packed with historic furniture, art and ceramics, and the grounds, which include both a walled and water garden, woodland walks and a fishing lake. Open <strong>until 27 Sept</strong>. </p>

<p>Owned by the Verney family for over 550 years, this C18th century manor in Middle Claydon is known for its connection to Florence Nightingale (she had a suite of rooms here), as well as its lavish interiors. As a bonus, there are no velvet ropes, so you can make yourself comfy on the plush sofas. If the rain holds off, grab a picnic and sprawl out on the South Lawn, or grab a bite to eat at Phoenix Kitchen in the courtyard. Claydon is open every Fri-Mon, but Mon 21 Oct is the last day you&#8217;ll be able to visit the house and the South Lawn this year.</p>

<p>Stepping into this Jacobean country house is like hopping 400 years into the past, as the house has remained largely untouched since the C17th. Small but perfectly formed, it’s worth a visit to stroll around the gardens and croquet lawns, before browsing the small secondhand bookshop or picking up a few plants if you’re feeling inspired to create your own Chastleton vibes in the garden. Open Weds-Sun <strong>until Sun 3 Nov</strong>. Note that dogs are allowed in the parkland, forecourt and stableyard only.</p>

<p>This C16th century manor on the Oxon/Glos border is famous as the home of William Morris, father of the Arts and Crafts movement and designer of those iconic textiles and prints. Pattern-lovers and maximalists will want to visit for the décor, while history buffs will be in raptures over the Tapestry Room. Drink it all in before wandering the gardens or visiting the quaint tea room. Open Thurs-Sat <strong>until the end of Oct</strong>. </p>
