Reader Treats Just For You!

More hot gossip than even Top of the Pops could handle. Openings, closures, brand new festivals - and you heard it hear first people!

Listen up Muddy readers, there’s a brand new festival near our in our ‘hood! Chilterns Live will be popping up in Tring’s Pendley Meadow, with a stellar pop line-up of Busted (this illicited a few squeals at Muddy HQ), Sophie Ellis Bextor, The Feeling and Top Loader on Sat 29 June.

Tickets available here.

Brush up on you’re pancake flipping skills (just saying, I’m actually quite the pro). Shrove Tues (5 March) is almost here and so is Westgate Oxford/Buzz Gym’s Pancake Race, in aid of Maggie’s Oxford. Teams of four can enter, for £25, and the best flippers can win over £200 worth of prizes from Westgate’s Cinnamon Kitchen, Victors, Pizza Pilgrims, and Blackwell’s Bookshop. Better get practising, I’m gunning for a Roof Top smorgasbord…

LASSCO The Three Pigeons, purveyor of finest architectural salvage, how much do I love thee? Er, well, actually quite a lot more since your new neighbour at Foster & Gane rocked up! This will be the first permanent retail space for the exhibitors who curate rare and quirky items from 17th century textiles to 70s prints. It’s a sad a permanent goodbye to the cafe/pub/restaurant that have popped up and sloped off over the years at this venue, but if you haven’t visited for a while, do – there’s a whole new layout throughout LASSCO and I think you’ll love it. If you have a bit of time, go badger head LASSCOer Ant – winningly laconic, he’s a font of knowledge on pretty much everything.

If you haven’t made it down to the Pint Shop, or further down to Under the Shop, then sorry guys, you’re too late! I’m sorry to say that the George St spot closed down last Sat as they just couldn’t make the business profitable in the city –  you can still visit further afield in Cambs and Birmingham though.

Bravo to The Russell Arms in Butler’s Cross, South Bucks – it’s just reopened with new owners a traditional village pub. In contrast to its previous incarnation as a high end gastropub, this menu promises a mix of pub classics, sandwiches and handmade stone-baked pizzas along with a smattering of more complex dishes. Signs are looking good – I’ll report back on the food asap.

Scorchio! BLAZE, a new boutique-style fitness class has just landed at David Lloyd. The class is promising a high-intensity, up-beat workout with big dance tunes, mixing cardio, martial arts and strength training- phew! The class also gives you the option to wear a heart monitor to track your progress – you’ll be able to compare heart rates on a large screen on the wall. Apparently Sophie Ellis Bextor is a big fan – which is no doubt why her arse is quarter the size of mine.

The only inflatable park south of Birmingham and north of South London has just opened in MK. Top Jump features over 11 different zones including the Jelly Mountain, slides, tunnels and pretty much any kind of bright inflatable you can think of (er, no, not that sort) and offers everything from parties and fitness to toddler bounce and adults only sessions.
