<p><a href="https://bucksoxon.muddystilettos.co.uk/little-black-book/directory/burnham-beeches-hotel-burnham/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Burnham Beeches Hotel</a>, a handsome large Georgian manor hotel in South Buckinghamshire, sits in 10 acres of smart gardens, with a leafy feel that somewhat belies its location between the M4 and M40 and just beyond the western edge of the M25. Convenience is this hotel&#8217;s middle name with easy access to basically anywhere in the south-east, making it super-popular for weddings, events and get togethers &#8211; there are event rooms for 10-180 guests, and a cool 78 bedrooms and suites.</p>



<p>One of three hotels in the Corus group (the others are in London and Grimsby), it has a strong reputation for its food with atwo AA Rosette fine dining restaurant, more informal brasserie and a space dedicated to serving pretty, tiered afternoon teas that are themed throughout the year (get in there early for Mother’s Day!).&nbsp;</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">THE VIBE</h2>



<p>Ding dong. Looking out towards the white stucco building from the garden, Burnham Beeches hotel it feels very experiential here &#8211; with a folly on the lawn and barbecue area for outdoor entertaining, weddings and special events are the strong suit here. The best views are from the rooms that overlook this area at the front of the hotel, though (that said it’s pretty leafy in most directions). </p>



<p>There&#8217;s a warm, friendly feel here &#8211; during my stay, the whole place was decked for autumn with pumpkins, dried leaves and cobwebs adorning the reception desk and bar for the younger guests, and the staff couldn&#8217;t have been more.  helpful. </p>

<p>Décor wise, there are some lovely spaces such as the banquette-seated brasserie, above, and the parquet-floored tea room with its rich, muted tones of grey and mauve, heavy lined curtains, and silvery grey upholstery, along with a few that need a little tickle up (the single storey reception, which connects the original manor house to a more modern brick building behind, being the main offender).</p>

<p>This isn&#8217;t designed as a spa hotel but it&#8217;s well set up for a dip and a treatment &#8211; there&#8217;s a small indoor pool, Jacuzzi and sauna, and serene treatment rooms where I had an excellent &#8216;taster&#8217; massage. There&#8217;s also bijou fitness room filled with the basics (no, I don&#8217;t mean a coffee machine).</p>

<p>A strong suit. The hotel has three dining spaces plus a bar that offers a snack menu. Afternoon tea is an elegant, traditional pleasure with the usual tiered offering plus quirky additions for Halloween like chocolate skull cake and raspberry blood tart. From the finger sandwiches to the cakes and warm scones it was freshly baked and delicious &#8211; I really couldn’t fault it, and it was good value at £29.50pp.</p>

<p>We had dinner (after a brisk walk around the garden) in the fine dining restaurant, a wood panelled affair with wing-back chairs, and a lovely bay window looking out onto the grounds. The restaurant was surprisingly atmospheric for a Monday night, with our fellow diners mostly older couples and a few clearly staying here for business/conferences, and the service was as efficient and friendly here as in the rest of the hotel. </p>

<p>The starters of twice-baked soufflé was delicate and the smoked duck breast tender, were both well presented and well-received by your hungry reviewer, whilst the mains of ribeye steak and chickpea harissa stew (not both for me &#8211; though tempting) were delicious; my steak came with a generous serving of the side of tenderstem broccoli with lemon and chilli pangritata. And the pretty pud of pineapple carpaccio was sliced fine enough to be delicate and the perfect end after a hearty two courses.</p>



<p>Breakfast the next morning was in a third space along the front of the hotel and was a buffet affair in more informal surrounds. The best options came freshly cooked off the menu, though the kids were well catered for with cereal and pastries and one of those old-school ‘toast your own slice of bread’ rotary machines.  </p>

<p>The hotel has 78 rooms and four suites across the two buildings and I&#8217;d say they&#8217;re superior mid range &#8211; you&#8217;re not in Cliveden territory (nor are you paying Cliveden prices!) and but there&#8217;s style and comfort &#8211; my large family room, below, was all muted greys, mauves and ivories with a dark feature wall and a contemporary clean-cut vibe. </p>

<p>The bed was huge and comfortable with crisp linen and scatter cushions and overlooked the central courtyard with plenty of natural light and windows looking onto a patio area, though my tip would be to request a lawn-facing room for a premium view. The bathroom was spotless with grey and white marble and White Company toiletries, a decent shower and fluffy towels (bathrobe on request).&nbsp;</p>

<p>The location is a huge perk of staying here, as you have free rein to roam nearby attractions such as <a href="https://www.windsorcastle.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Windsor Castle</a> (a 20-minute drive away) and LEGOLAND (add another 10 minutes to your journey). It’s also a popular choice for racegoers heading to Royal Ascot.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">KID FRIENDLY?</h2>



<p>The hotel is well geared up for kids thanks to the pool, the roomy family suites for up to four and thoughtful extras like an early dinner served in the less formal bar area. There&#8217;s no dedicated play area but there&#8217;s 10 acres of garden to roam around in. </p>

<p>No four legged friends allowed.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">THE MUDDY VERDICT</h2>



<p><strong>GOOD FOR:</strong> This is a hotel that does special occasions and family gatherings well &#8211; it&#8217;s smart, clean and central with top-notch food. Take Christmas, for example &#8211; the hotel offers two-day stays with buffet-style dinner on Christmas Eve then a hearty breakfast and four-course lunch, plus a visit from Santa and games for the big day. Weddings and conferences are well catered for here too.</p>



<p><strong>NOT FOR:</strong> Couples looking for an intimate setting might find the hotel a bit busy, it also might not work for those wanting entertainment that’s walkable. </p>



<p><strong>The damage:</strong> Doubles start from £128; for a weekend overnighter with breakfast in the top Georgian suite, it&#8217;s a comparative steal at £233.</p>
