Position of the week
Not like that - naughty! We're talking about yoga, of course.
With homeschooling and WFH the new normal, we’re all going to be spending a lot of time hunched over the dining room table – not ideal for those of us who already suffer from creaky necks, shoulders and backs.
We’ve asked brilliant Bucks-based yoga instructor Philippa Stevens to show a simple shoulder exercise to release the tension. All you need is one minute, plus a yoga band or scarf.
Just watch and copy what she does or read the instructions below before you start.
Take it away Philippa…
Shoulder Release is an ideal posture for releasing tension and pressure that you may find in your neck and shoulders after sitting at your desk all day.
1. Inhale and draw your shoulders up towards your ears then exhale whilst rolling your shoulders back and down. Do this six times to release tension you might be holding in your shoulders.
2. Draw the right ear towards the right shoulder to release those tight spots on the side of the neck. Hold for 4 deep breaths and then repeat on the left side
3. If you like, grab a belt or a scarf and move the arms back and overhead whilst taking deep breaths through the nose. Repeat 6 times keeping the arms straight if you can. Don’t forget to breathe!
