<p>Millets Farm Centre, between Oxford and Abingdon, is Oxfordshire&#8217;s newest winter lights trail, and it&#8217;s a quite the spectacle. The 60-80 minute route sees the farm transformed into a dazzling festive display for you and your gang to marvel at. Make your way to the end of the trail and you&#8217;ll find a gaggle of food and drinks stalls with sweet treats and mulled wine for the full Christmassy experience. There&#8217;s marshmallow toasting and fairground rides for littlies to enjoy once they&#8217;re had their fill of the light show. Tickets range from £12.50-£17.50 depending if you pick peak or off-peak timings. </p>

<p>For a more full throttle light show just a stone&#8217;s throw across the border in Northamptonshire, Silverstone’s <a href="https://www.silverstone.co.uk/events/lap-of-lights" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Lap of Lights</a> is pedal to the metal. Rather than strapping your boots on, you get to drive your car all the way around the iconic, Silverstone Circuit, illuminated on its grandest scale yet. Yes, you’ll be whizzing around the very same track that’s been graced by the likes of Lewis Hamilton and Lando Norris. Admittedly, you won’t be driving at quite the same velocity but, hey, they don’t get to enjoy the light displays do they? From £50 per car. </p>

<p>Hang onto your Santa hats, Fairytale Farm near Chipping Norton is another spot that takes Christmas <em>extremely</em> seriously. Think twinkling lights, magical encounters and a visit from the man in the big red suit. Then it&#8217;s off to Dickensian London for <em>A Christmas Carol</em>, where there&#8217;s a gift for every child at Tom&#8217;s Toy Shop. They&#8217;ll love it, and it could be a bit of escapist fun for you too ( don&#8217;t worry, there&#8217;s mulled wine and mince pies on the menu). Adult tickets from £15.99, under 2s £9.99. </p>

<p>There&#8217;s more festive fun in store at Odds Farm in South Bucks. Tickets are on the steep side (from £48.95 per child) but they do include a visit to Santa, snow shows, toy-making, a light trail, live interactive shows and penguins singing a cappella on selected dates if you really want to blow some tiny minds. The illuminated tree show is quite the show-stopper and might well give you some inspo if buying your own is still on the to-do list.</p>

<p>For an alt-festive adventure that’s lit, Land of the Lights at Gulliver’s in Milton Keynes goes big on enormous glowing lanterns and dazzling portals that transport you to various dreamworlds. There’s special dates for dogs so you can bring the whole household and tickets to go and see Santa too for some extra &#8216;ho ho glow&#8217; time. <p>Waddesdon Manor is lighting up for Christmas once again, offering more festive cheer than you can shake a tinsel-covered stick at. Add some glitzy magic to a crisp winter walk and book a light trail – this year’s extravaganzas look better than ever. Waddesdon Manor was built by Baron Ferninand de Rothschild, who had French and Austrian roots, so prepare to be wowed by a spangly all singing, all dancing trans-European tour in the company of his much-loved<em>&nbsp;chien</em>, Poupon. The Christmas Fair and Village are off to the south side of the Manor to make room for the extra theatrics. Tickets from £15.50. </p>

<p>Blenheim doesn&#8217;t do anything by halves, and Christmas is its bread and butter. The woods, the lights, the glowing lake &#8211; this ain&#8217;t Blenheim&#8217;s first rodeo and it shows. There&#8217;s a rendez-vous with Father Christmas along the way, too, so keep your eyes peeled. Besides the famous technicolour light trail, there&#8217;s festive flurries of snow, an alpine food and shopping village and you can skip along candy cane lane. Or why not step through the twinkling hot air balloon into the Palace to experience a glowing Wonderland of Oz? Or perhaps glide across the ice rink in the heart of the Great Court? Just a nudge into Northamptonshire, Evenley Wood Garden is a 60-acre private garden carefully curated with a range of rare plants that wouldn&#8217;t usually grow in the region. They never miss the chance for a themed event and the surroundings are just perfect for a light trail. Think leafy treeways, forest clearings, and moonlight peeking through the branches. The theme of the festive trail is searching for the &#8216;lost magic of Christmas&#8217;, which, all being well, will be restored by the end of the journey. No spoilers, though.
