Shop this autumn’s trends at Westgate Oxford

Want to update your wardrobe, home and kids' clobber in one fell swoop? Pick up the new season's updates with a nifty one-stop jaunt around Westgate.

Autumn threads

Summer has officially ended so it’s time to pack away the daisy dukes and slip into something altogether more, well… substantial. Workwear definitely isn’t going to be an issue for the next six months so comfy and warm is where it’s at. Uniqlo, as usual, is winning at the layering game and we’ve got our eyes on this rather dashing longline cardi (£34.90) that might possibly accompany us to bed too, depending on outside temperature.

Uniqlo cardigan

The Duchess of Sussex loves a cape and if it means extra layers, we do too. Cos, home of the minimalist and cool, have incorporated one into a tomato red jumper (£99), which will assist you in the style stakes for your next Zoom call.

Cos cape

What to wear underneath? Well, you could do worse than these recycled cashmere joggers at £150 (just don’t stand up mid-call).

Cos cashmere joggers

The Athleisure trend isn’t going anywhere and Zara has some lovely co-ord sets of joggers, tops and cardis. For something that you feasibly can pop down to Waitrose in, this duck egg combo of tunic (£29.99) and trousers (£29.99) gives off minimalist vibes and is structured just enough to remove the ‘Is she? Isn’t she?’ pyjama question. Win.

Boots for all seasons

Stompy ones, silver ones, biker ones, cowboy tasselly ones, chelsea ones  – and that’s just my current collection. You can never have too many boots. This season, track soles are making waves such as these Chelsea boots from Kin at John Lewis (£85).

Fancy something a bit more delicate? Well, suede boots look lovely with autumn’s floaty dresses – try these mid-calf numbers from Zara (£69.99) in a seasonal soft khaki.

Vogue advises that chains on shoes are ‘a thing’ for AW2020 as is the combat aesthetic, so if you’ve got a spare £395 knocking around, these from Russell & Bromley might be just the ticket.

Got your breath back? Well, there are cheaper versions, like these from Zara (£95.99).

Of course, the original stompers – Dr Martens (£149) – will see you through the next decade if, that is, you are willing to do the hard work wearing them in. Pick them up at Urban Outfitters.

Hero outerwear

Coats make outfits. In fact, if you don’t undo them, they often work as outfits. For instance, there’s something of the WWI Greatcoat about this number from Mango (£169.99) and we’re here for it. This will cover a multitude of sins, including Rice-Krispie-splattered joggers when doing the school run.

Now, if you’re of the opinion (as is Diane Von Furstenberg) that leopard print is a neutral, this Zara option (£89.99) will see you through a good few seasons.

A classic camel also can make you look put-together when you’re anything but so this crombie from Hush (£179.99) might be a wise investment.

Now, I’ve never had a puffa but as I get older, I’m beginning to understand the reasons why you’d choose to walk around in, what is essentially, a duvet with arms. This Cos one (£180) has a cool collar and the mustard yellow will make you stand out in a sea of black, grey and navy.

It’s the inside that counts

With winter and a second rumble with Covid bearing down on us, we’re going to be spending *a lot* of time inside. So, now’s the time to spruce up your living space. Real life plants (yep, ones that you can kill) are still high up the interior trend agenda, as is rattan. So tick off both trends together with this slightly spenny but very gorgeous planter from Oliver Bonas (£95). Your bathroom will thank you for it.

Chinoiserie and patterns on patterns are also making a comeback. Got the itch to take on another room in the house for the soon-to-be-here lockdown #2? Then, quick, order in a batch of this beautiful John Lewis wallpaper (£40 per roll).

Florals, too, are promising to stay on trend so for a quick and affordable update, H&M Home has pretty porcelain crockery (£6.99)

H&M floral bowl

And rather fetching velvet scatter cushions (12.99) too.

Kit out the kids

There’s something so innocent about children in yellow raincoats; every child should have one. And here’s a great version from Cos (£59) that should protect from the worst of the autumn showers.

Cos kids' coat

Keep the chills out with this fab pom pom hat from H&M (available in six colourways) for £7.99.

This super sweet poncho from John Lewis (£22) will get loads of wear just yanked on over leggings or dresses (but my real question is, do they do them for adults?).

And we’re crushing on this camo parka (£55) for the little man in your life. Street cool in one fell swoop.

Love this website. Great information. I love seeing Muddy Stiletto pop up in my inbox. Best email by far. Love all the info on Pub Walks, really going to help in the weeks to come, when I am on holiday from work, and can get out of town with my dog.
Loving the fashion updates for Autumn, think I might treat myself to the Wool Coat by Mango.
Thanking you for this lovely website.🙏🙏🤘🏻🤘🏻🍁🍁🍂🍂🦔🦔

One of the better emails I receive, very informative and I bought the long oat coloured cardigan you suggested from H&M and it makes a great nicer looking dressing gown on a chilly autumnal evening!
