You’ve got to admire a brand that can make luggage cool. Suitcases aren’t generally considered sexy – I mean, I’ll spend a lot of time choosing the perfect handbag (a Sezane cross-body right now, since you ask), but I’ll bung my holiday wardrobe into any battered old receptacle without a second thought.
Well, I did – until I started lusting over Away luggage. The cult online brand launched in 2015 and now has nearly half a million followers on Instagram (493,000 people eagerly tracking the adventures of a suitcase – who’d have thought it?) and its sleek cases will be proudly paraded through airport terminals by endless celebrities and influencers this summer.

So what is it about these suitcases that has everyone swooning? Well, it seems the brand actually listened when it did its market research and created a product that solves common travelling bugbears. The carry-on has has a built-in battery to charge your phone. It comes in a vast array of colourways so you’re not faced with 200 black suitcases that all look the same on the carousel. It has wheels that rotate 360 degrees plus a side handle so you can pick it up and easily carry it up or down stairs. There’s a built-in combination lock. You can get it personalised – they’ll hand-paint your initials on the case and luggage tag.
But most importantly, it makes packing a doddle and you can fit absolutely loads in, thanks to clever design and a compression device. Clothes on one side, accessories and toiletries on the other, laptop/tablet in the middle, boom!
