Toploader in Marlow, you say? Rosamund Pike in Oxford? Darcy Bussell in Aylesbury? All the fun of the local gossip right here and a gratuitous rower photo to boot!
Xscape reality at RushVR, Milton Keynes
Fancy going to MK to battle zombies, defend your castle, run through Mayan pyramids and defeat aliens rather than a potter round John Lewis? Well now you can. Rush VR, a brand new thrill at Xscape in Milton Keynes, opened only a few weeks back, is an awesome gaming experience (we’ve had a go, it’s wild!) – state of the art technology with rides, simulators and a bar now in the pipeline. Also look out for Gravity trampolining park, arriving at Xscape in July- we hear it’s going to be the biggest bouncer in the county!
Rosamund Pike Q&A at the Curzon on Sun 13 May
Hot news! We’ve just heard in our shelllike that Rosamund Pike (soooo beautiful) is going to be giving a Q&A at the Curzon this Sunday after the screening of the shorts programme as part of the Oxford International Film Festival. She’s starring in The Human Voice, based on the play by Jean Cocteau, an unflinching portrait of heartbreak as two lovers have their final phone conversation. Suranne Jones also takes on heartbreak in her short Gone, also showing in the Sunday programme.
Toploader to headline Marlow Town Regatta and Festival!
Now thats not a sentence I thought I’d ever write! But tis true, the Nineties Brit band have been confirmed as headliners (we can only hope they’ll be fully lycra clad) for what it is shaping up to be a really fun festival. Steve Redgrave sounds the starting gun – or horn? klaxon? who knows?! – for The Marlow Town Regatta on Saturday 16 June and don’t forget that it’s family day on Sunday with the Dragon Boat race (think sweaty middle aged men trying to please their kids by giving it a go), family entertainment from Circus Passion, The Ark, Basil and Crew Petting Farm, Kobika Dance and drop in craft workshops.
WhizzFizzFest, Aylesbury, 30 June
This celebration of children’s literature around Aylesbury is attracting more and more big names, with Darcey Bussell, Jessica Innes-Hill and singer Tony Hadley already booked for this year. Now Muddy hears that WhizzFizzFest has just added some new authors to the mix including super-successful illustrator, author and screenwriter, Andy Riley, who wrote the scripts for Gangsta Granny, The Boy in the Dress, Gnomio and Juliet and Sherlock Gnomes. Blimey! Book tickets to see him here.
Baker Girl in Bloxham to open a retail space
The fabulous Baker Girls in Bloxham have just closed the doors on their cafe at Wyckham Farm after three years (*sob*). But fear not lovers of sour dough and flat whites, they have a new bijou café in Great Tew and plans are afoot for courses and a retail space later this summer. Phew.
An Autumn outing for the The Langley Hotel
Ah boooooo! It was supposed to be this summer but now we’re looking at October for the launch of this superluxe hotel in Langley Park near Iver Heath, south Bucks. The former country estate of the third duke of Marlborough with landscaping by Capability Brown is going to be the hot new hotel in the county – but don’t you worry, I’ll make sure you’re the first to know as soon as the ribbon’s been cut!
