I've been sniffing around for the hottest goss in the 'hood and I've come up trumps. Nosey parker, moi?!
There’s my kind of house party, involving a few supermarket boxes of wine, Kettle chips and an iTunes playlist… and then there’s Chipping Norton Theatre’s The House Party 2019 which has a somewhat fancier flavour to say the least! Taking place on Sun 22 Sept at the astonishingly cool Aynhoe House, this bash looks INCREDIBLE, taking in anarchic theatre, opera, magic, ghost stories, mime, cabaret, poetry dancing, roller-skating – and a pantomime dame (but of course). And that’s all washed down with lashings of champagne and theatrical canapés (me neither but they sound intriguing).
The venue, by the way, is a private country home just down the road from Soho Farmhouse that’s full of antiques and kitsch curios, and a honeypot for celebs (Noel Gallagher had his 50th here). I’d kill to have a snoop around – it’s worth going for the location alone, I’d say. The party is £125 per ticket with all proceeds going to the theatre to help keep this cultural gem flourishing (check out our interview with the theatre’s director here – you’ll see why we love it so). You can book online here or call the box office on 01608 642350. What’s more, we have 4 tickets worth £500 to give away to one lucky Muddy subscriber. Oh yeah! Westgate in Oxford is holding a fashion, food and lifestyle weekend event called Westgate In-Spires (see what they did there?) 27-29 Sep. There will be catwalk shows showcasing AW19 collections, make-up masterclasses, styling sessions courtesy of John Lewis, cocktail-making sessions and cooking classes on the roof terrace, dance, live music and more. If you still need to nail your new season wardrobe, this is the perfect weekend to pop to the shops.
The Ivy League
Oxford is joining The Ivy league this autumn, with the opening of a new outpost of the glam restaurant chain on the city’s high street. We went to the launch of the Marlow restaurant two years back and had the most awesome time, so the prospects are good! No official date yet but I’m keeping my ear to the ground and nose to the window – I’ll be the first to know!
The Sun Café and Bar, Wheatley
Just down the road from Muddy HQ a veritable phoenix is rising from the ashes (and our lunchtime drink prospects have suddenly perked up considerably). It officially opened just last night and is owned by the ex head honcho of the fabulous Mole pub in Toot Baldon (my mother’s go-to for lunch!) so expectations are high. I’ll let you know how it goes!
